DESCRIPTION
Learn to recognize the signs of Human Trafficking both sex and labor. Develop an understanding of prevention and intervention and connect with other multidisciplinary, services, organizations and groups who are fighting to eradicate human trafficking.
 
Key note speakers, Theresa Flores, survivor, author and founder of the S.O.A.P. Project and Harmony (Dust) Grillo, survivor, author and founder of Treasures.
 
CEU's (1 credit) available for counselors and social workers (additional $10.00 fee).
 
Resource tables will be available from various community groups.

Removing the Veil of Silence!

Speakers: Rev. Carrie Woods, Pearls of Great Price Coalition, a grassroots Christian coalition fighting human trafficking in Southeast Michigan and Detective First Lieutenant Mary Kapp, 31 year veteran of the Michigan State Police and graduate of the FBI academy who has served in many capacities from conducting numerous presentations on drug trends and human trafficking. Along with her many responsibilities, she has participated in S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) outreaches in Michigan, California, and Texas as well as assisted in facilitating human trafficking survivor retreats.

BREAK THE CHAIN

This documentary addresses the issue of human trafficking in Michigan communities and the United States. The film chronicles two survivor’s stories and provides a detailed look at how trafficking goes unnoticed within our own backyards. Included with these stories are nearly 20 interviews with researchers, Senators, non-profit organizations, legal service agencies, and law enforcement officers working to raise awareness of this global issue.

Among The Darkest Shadows

A story of 21st century slavery, this work of innovative dance tells the stories of Lodi, a young victim of labor trafficking, and Pinta, a victim of sex trafficking in a powerful, impactful work. If you cannot attend the Thursday performance, it will be repeated on Sunday, February 19th at 1 PM.

From Darkness To Light

This day-long conference sheds light on the issue of human trafficking, highlights organizations that work to combat this crime, and provides ways for individuals to get involved in awareness efforts. Speakers include Andy Soper, Joyce Dixson-Haskett, Bridgette Carr, and others.

Human Trafficking Forum

Join us on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 4-6 PM in the Student Center Ballroom C at Wayne State University  for an important conversation about raising awareness about human/sex trafficking, action being taken to end it in our state, and how you can advocate against it. ​We will be screening the movie Break the Chains at the Meyer Theatre on the campus of Monroe County Community College on Thursday, October 20th from 6-7:30 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. There will be a Q&A session following the event.
