Become Informed: Familiarize yourself with the definition of human trafficking and with the current state of affairs regarding human trafficking in the world, your state, and your city. A good place to start is here: http://www.polarisproject.org. You can also follow us on Facebook at our Monroe County Anti Human Trafficking Coalition page.
Raise Awareness: You can request a Coalition speaker to give a presentation about trafficking to a group you are involved in. Help us put on an awareness event. Talk about human trafficking to those around you; host an informational meeting in your home, church, or place of work; or sponsor a viewing of a human trafficking movie. We encourage you to enter the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline in your phone: 1-888-3737-888. Call the hotline if you suspect human trafficking or text to BEFREE (233733). You can also visit http://www.polarisproject.org/take-action/raise-awareness for more ideas.
Advocate: Encourage your elected officials to prioritize updating laws to protect victims of human trafficking in Michigan. Stay involved by monitoring local and state legislative action at http://www.polarisproject.org/what-we-do/policy-advocacy.
Join us and volunteer: Our coalition would love to have you work with us. We need people to help with administration, fundraising, training, speaking, community outreach, and advocacy. Contact us and tell us how you would like to help.
